Our logo is an amalgamation of two primary pieces, both of which have great significance to us.
The first piece, which we refer to as the “Jolly”, is a spin on a “Jolly Rodger” pirate flag, incorporating a hop cone into the skull, with crossed mash paddles behind it. The inclusion of the hop cone represents our deep respect for this incredible plant and its prodigious use in our beers. The mash paddles are a nod to our humble roots and the many mashes performed without mechanical assistance. But the Jolly says something else as well; it speaks to the rebellious nature in us and the voice in our head that demands we eschew the traditional path in favor of one far less certain, but far more exciting.
The second piece of our logo is a surfboard on its side, representing our beautiful coastal Virginia town. We are connected to the ocean in many ways and our proximity to this powerful force of nature serves as inspiration for our beers and their names. Although we light-heartedly poke fun at the distinct lack of big waves here, Virginia Beach is home to many lovers of the ocean, ourselves included, and we pay tribute to them in this way.
